Join Conal Montgomery as he takes to the stage for the launch of latest album ‘The Corner Stone’ on 16th June, 8pm at Belfast’s Pug Ugly’s.
The Corner Stone is Conal Montgomery’s second album and is a collection of songs written while in lockdown mostly about his hometown Killyleagh, County Down. These are Songs of real people, real happenings and unbelievably beautiful surroundings of the village on the shores of Strangford Lough.
Speaking about the album’s title track, Conal says “Every town has a Corner Stone that holds the memories of the past to look back with fondness reminding us of people gone but never forgotten, Tommy Sands told me “people make places”.
Conal also includes on his album songs born out of the poems, lyrics and thoughts of friends old and new who sent these to him while also in lockdown. This is a folk/country album, maybe they are not supposed to go together but Conal says, “some people like soup and some people like stew, my wife makes a dish and she calls it soupy stew and it works and is delicious. I think this album is a bit like soupy stew, they are not supposed to go together but I think it works just fine”.
The first track on the album is called ‘Isaac’ and is about a relation of Conal’s who drowned at the harbour in Killyleagh back in 1903.
The song ‘This Is Our Town’ takes the listener on a tour of Killyleagh and ‘Do You Fancy A Match Down On The Green’ takes Conal back to his childhood and was actually written over twenty years ago. “It documents the estate I grew up in and all the friends I hung out with while playing football. I dedicate and wrote this song for my Dad”, explains Conal.
‘This Life Is Not For Me’ is a song about coercive control and ‘A Single White Feather’ is a little Country Toe-Tapper!
The album was recorded and produced by his old school pal and award winning songwriter Gerard Dornan at his Hillside Studio in Loughinisland, County Down.
The Corner Stone Album is available on all major platforms and CDs and can be purchased through Conal Montgomery Music on Facebook or Conal Montgomery Bandcamp.
