Giants Bring Ty Prefontaine To Belfast For 2026/27 Season

The Belfast Giants are pleased to confirm the signing of 27-year-old defenceman Ty Prefontaine for the 2026/27 season.

From Saskatoon, the 6’3” Canadian joins the Giants following an impressive first professional season with the Allen Americans, during which he contributed 26 total points in 55 games for the Texas-based ECHL side.

Adam Keefe, Head Coach of the Belfast Giants, said: “Ty came out of school and had a great first season of pro hockey. He’s a big defender who skates well, so he’ll definitely add some size and be a solid two-way d-man for us next season.”

Before turning professional, Prefontaine made 129 USports appearances for the University of Saskatoon between 2021 and 2026, recording 42 total points. In his senior year, Prefontaine was also appointed as one of the Huskie’s alternate captains.

Commenting on signing for the Belfast Giants, Ty Prefontaine said: “I am incredibly excited to join an organisation such as the Belfast Giants for the upcoming season. As a player joining this team, I plan to help in any way possible to uphold the success this club has seen in the past few years. The fans are second to none and I can’t wait to see the city that’s home to the Giants.”

2026/27 Belfast Giants season tickets are on sale for a limited time only, with the full schedule of Elite League and Challenge Cup fixtures expected soon. For more information or to secure your seat ahead of the new campaign, click here
